Theodora Nathan, 1972 vice presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party was the first woman in U. S. history to receive an electoral vote. John Hospers was the LP presidential candidate. Roger Lea MacBride was the Republican elector from Virginia who cast his votes for Hospers/Nathan rather than Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. MacBride had written a book on the Electoral College, which had prompted his selection as an elector. I personally knew Nathan, Hospers, and especially MacBride, who later served as the 1976 LP presidential candidate.
